Battle of Lake Erie Intercollegiate Regatta 2023
September 16-17, 2023 saw the Battle of Lake Erie hosted at the Erie Yacht Club. Held annually in September, this regatta has been a sanctioned qualifier leading the Middle Atlantic States Intercollegiate Association’s Fall Championship. The Foundation has been a sponsor of all three local colleges, and was instrumental in the establishment of local intercollegiate sailing teams.
This year’s regatta was won by the University of Toronto. Also participating were RIT, Penn State Behrend, Penn State Main, Syracuse, University of Rochester and the University of Pittsburgh. Wind (or lack of it!) was a challenge on both days.
2019 Opti Great Lakes Championship
On June 8 and 9, 2019, the Erie Yacht Club hosted 68 youth and their families from across North America at the Opti Great Lakes Championship. With support from the Foundation, the regatta was a great success and a showcase not only for the Erie Yacht Club but for the broader Erie Community. Sailors were treated to the combination of strong winds and flat water that is a hallmark of Presque Isle Bay, making it a perfect location for dinghy regattas.
Wooden boat regatta
A classic race with classic yachts! For several years auction item winners could participate by sailing on beautiful wooden boats such as Dreamer, Altair, and Westerly. There are no plans to hold this event in the future.
